4  secrets to staying in tip top shape over the festive season!

Christmas is a time to relax and indulge. However, if you don’t want to undo all your hard-work, it’s a good idea to find small ways to keep active. Below, we have compiled a quick read of our top tips to stay active over the Christmas period!

Keep Moving

During the holidays there are lots of evenings in watching Christmas films and eating festive foods. Try and stay active when and where you can, go for a slightly longer walk with the dog, walk to the shops or to a friends, maybe even give yourself some time and walk or cycle to work 1 day a week. Keeping moving and not sitting down for large periods of time helps to not only burn a few extra calories (so you can have that extra mince pie 🤫) but also helps with circulation and muscle or joint soreness. It’s simple but effective walk whenever you can – it all adds up!

Stay Hydrated

It’s always important to stay properly hydrated but especially around this time of year when a few of us are enjoying Christmas parties with a few drinks. Alcohol is a diuretic which means the more you drink the more liquid you excrete, on average for every pint you drink you will pee out a pint and a ½. This means it is really important to keep drinking water to stay hydrated. But we all know water is a bit boring and doesn’t look very ‘cool’. Our top tip is to try a Squash Stix or Vit Stix. Simply add this to your water and make a delicious drink instantly. Plus Vit Sitx have the added bonus of natural vitamins which help give natural energy and help the body absorb that essential water more easily.

This simple trick of drinking more (soft drinks 😉) over the festive period will help you to feel fresh, vibrant and energised.

Get Active With The Family

Going for walks or getting on the bike with your family great way to get outside and keep active. This will get the blood flowing and being outside will increase your chance of getting some vitamin D which the NHS recommends none of us get enough of at this time of year. So, getting outside and then rehydrating is a great way to top up your vitamin D this Christmas. Walks and bike rides are also a good opportunity to spend more time with your family (it’s up to you if this is a benefit!). Try using this link to find local walks or bike rides.

Try a New Routine

Take the holidays as an opportunity to try something different from your usual schedule. If you are used to working out in the gym, why not try running outside on a new route? Or maybe take the time to try a new activity? On average it takes 66 days to create a habit but the festive period can be a good time to change up those routines. Mixing up how you exercise can help increase the effectiveness of your work outs. Remember to stay hydrated as well try drinking a Vit Stix at the end of your new activity and make staying hydrated and getting those vitamins into your system a new habit.

So there you have it. 4 top tips to keep you active this Christmas. Fitting in exercise when and where you can is great, but most importantly, remember to stay hydrated.  But most of all enjoy the holidays unwind, destress, spend time with your family and stay happy!
